DINING

The best of modern Scandinavian cuisine, traditional regional cooking, classic French and global-fusion cookery beckons in the Oresund region’s many restaurants, including historic castle kitchens, country inns and seaside eateries.

The Michelin Guide lists seven star-rated restaurants in the Oresund Region.

There is inspiration from every corner of the world. Traditional Swedish and Danish delights, such as smorgasbord, pickled herring and aquavit, are offset by thrilling new influences working with locally produced, seasonal ingredients, including lamb, mushrooms, Baltic herring and eel.

With an abundance of natural primary produce from the sea, the field and the forest, Scandinavian cuisine is distinguished by its unaffected blend of the refined and the rustic.

Cleanliness is a keyword in Scandinavian cuisine. Scandinavian restaurants have exceptionally high sanitary standards. All food is prepared in a hygienic environment.

SMORGASBORD

The best known traditional meal is the smorgasbord (in Danish: smørrebrød or, buffet-style, det store kolde bord) with dark rye bread, many different kinds of pickled herring. Side dishes include abundant salads, hot and cold meats, salmon and shrimp.
A sure-fire rule of thumb is: When in doubt, put it on bread!

TIVOLI GARDENS

Try at least one evening meal at Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen — there's a wide choice of restaurants plus much to look at and do.

BEER

Sample the excellent local beers, prime among them Tuborg and Carlsberg, available in varying strengths and special brews for various holidays. The Carlsberg Brewery in Copenhagen is open for tours.

SYSTEMBOLAGET

In Sweden, liquor (including regular-strength beer) retails only at Systembolaget and only to people over age 20. Systembolaget has over 400 stores throughout Sweden and a wide assortment.

Opening hours: Weekdays 9:30-10am – 6pm, Thursdays until 7pm. Some cities are open Saturdays.
Note! Long queues on Fridays and days before public holidays.
