Danish and Swedish are the two official languages of the Oresund Region. The two languages are so similar that Swedes and Danes can understand one another when speaking their own language. In turn, communication is far easier here than in other transnational regions in Europe.

Most Danes and Swedes have excellent English skills. English is taught in schools from the third grade on. Surveys find that a full 80 percent of the population is fluent in English. German and French are also spoken to some degree.
Note the three distinct letters of the Danish alphabet: Æ, Ø and Å, and the Swedish: Ä, Ö and Å.
Pronunciation key:
Æ, Ä (open e as in let)
Ø, Ö (as German ö or French eu)
Å (open o as in open)
